The people of Honduras are warm and friendly, and incredibly thankful for the work of mission teams in their community.  Here are some pictures of people who passed through our clinic.  It was such a pleasure to meet and treat them all!

JOSEU RECOVERS FROM SEIZURE, DAY 3

Seriously Ill Infant, Day 1 of Mission

This baby visited our clinic on the first day we were open.  She had a very high fever, vomiting and diarrhea for six days, and had eaten nothing but water for two days.  She was 3 months old.  We treated her with a broad-spectrum antibiotic and an anti-amoebic, plus Tylenol and an electrolyte replacement solution.

Our patient is much better!  Day 2

On the second day of clinic, this mom brought her baby back as we requested.  As you can see from the photo, she was much improved!  With no fever, resolving diarrhea, no vomiting for 12 hours, and an appetite for breast milk, she was rapidly getting better.  We were very happy to have confirmation of appropriate prescription in this case.

A little boy nearly dies on Day 3...

Joseu was a 4-year-old who came to the clinic in status epilepticus.  He had been in a grand mal seizure for over 6 hours when he arrived at the clinic.  We gave him the only emergency medications we had available.  None of them were injectable, so we had to crush them and place them under the tongue, praying his body would absorb the medication.  He stopped seizing very quickly, and slept in a clinic room for several hours while he recovered.  He left smiling shyly and thanking us for helping him!  What an answer to prayer that he recovered at all!  He was sent home with several months worth of antiepileptic medication.
